Hotel The Noblemen is an independent luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic Canal Belt. Set within a monumental 17th century canal house, we combine original historic details, distinctive design, modern comfort and highly personal service. We offer a luxury experience, but we are not a conventional five star hotel. Our luxury comes from the character of the building, the individuality of every room, the history woven throughout the experience and the personal attention we give our guests.
Yes. We are a small independent boutique hotel with 13 individually designed rooms. Every room is different and has its own character, story and position within our historic building.
Yes. We are a luxury boutique hotel, but not a conventional five star luxury hotel. Rather than focusing on a standardised five star formula, we offer luxury through historic character, thoughtful design, beautiful materials, modern comfort and genuinely personal service.

Yes. We are located directly on Leidsegracht in Amsterdam’s historic Canal Belt.
We have 13 individually designed rooms. Each room is unique rather than being a standardised version of another room.
Our building dates back to 1663 and still contains original historic details, including elements of its architecture and craftsmanship. Each of our 13 rooms tells a different story connected to a notable historical figure, while modern comfort and personal service make the experience feel contemporary.
If you are looking for somewhere more personal and distinctive than a conventional luxury hotel, The Noblemen offers a very different experience. From the moment you arrive, Amsterdam’s history, people, craftsmanship and character are part of your stay rather than simply the backdrop outside your room.
We are particularly suited to couples and adults looking for a personal, characterful and luxurious stay in central Amsterdam. We are a good choice for guests who appreciate history, design, individuality and attentive service.

We welcome guests aged 16 and older only. This allows us to maintain the peaceful and intimate atmosphere for which we are known.
It describes the experience we aim to create. Our historic building and the stories connected to the people who lived and worked in Amsterdam’s past are combined with modern comfort, distinctive design and personal service.
The story of The Noblemen begins in 1663, when Leidsegracht 14 was built as part of Amsterdam’s rapidly developing Canal Belt. Over the centuries, the building was connected to different people and professions, and today each of our rooms tells the story of one of the notable figures associated with Amsterdam and the wider history of the Netherlands.
The building of Hotel The Noblemen dates back to 1663.
The first known owner of our building on Leidsegracht 14 was Isaac Foucquier, a French marble merchant. His connection to the building can still be seen today through original marble elements that remain part of the property.
Original elements of the building include historic architectural details, marble, parts of the original staircase and other craftsmanship from the building’s earlier life. We have incorporated these features into the hotel rather than replacing the historic character of the property.
Leidsegracht is one of Amsterdam’s historic canals and forms part of the Canal Belt created during Amsterdam’s major expansion in the 17th century. Its location connected the developing western part of the city with the older centre.
Amsterdam’s Canal Belt was developed during the major urban expansion of the 17th century. The concentric canals created space for new homes, businesses and trade and remain one of the defining features of historic Amsterdam today.
Amsterdam in 1663 was a rapidly growing international city shaped by trade, craftsmanship, science, art and commerce. The Canal Belt was being developed and the city was becoming one of Europe’s most important centres of business and culture.
Our rooms are inspired by 13 figures including Benedictus de Spinoza, Herman Boerhaave, the Trip brothers, Antonie van Leeuwenhoek, Michiel de Ruyter, Albertus Seba, Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, Hugo de Groot, Rembrandt van Rijn, Christiaan Huygens, Abel Tasman, Cornelis Drebbel and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck.
The name refers to the remarkable people whose stories are represented throughout the building. Many of these historical figures were influential in shaping Amsterdam and the Netherlands through science, art, trade, exploration, literature and other fields.
Leidsegracht 14 is part of Amsterdam’s protected historic architecture and is a monumental 17th century canal house. Its original structure, architecture and historic details are an important part of the character of the property.
Hotel The Noblemen opened in May 2021.
We preserve the original character wherever possible and incorporate historic materials, architectural details and craftsmanship into the design. The stories connected to the building are also brought to life through the individual rooms.
Amsterdam’s history is central to the concept of The Noblemen. Each room is inspired by a historical figure, while original elements of the building and carefully selected design details connect the experience to Amsterdam’s past.
